New sound and single…

ELA  brings a new sound and new single Light It UP to the world! Currently residing in Austin, we caught up with her to learn more about her upcoming projects and summertime plans.  Read on!

Thank you for joining us ELA
, could you take a few minutes to tell our readers more about your beginnings in the industry?

It is pretty simple. I started with a few songs and a few little gigs to start out. I worked my way up and played the Frank Brown Songwriters festival and won the best song. This time around in Austin I have been paying my dues, learning about stage sound, PAs and how to run a band. You can’t skip those steps. There’s personal development that needs to go on so that you CAN handle the bigger things that come next. I’m pleased to say that I am ready to move on to the bigger things and so excited for what’s next!  I am grateful for where I am today and where I’ve been because it has made me who I am!

Where do you see your career taking you within the next year?

I see myself rocking big festival stages and touring the country! My band is almost ready to kick it and rock a new sound and style. The right label or distribution deal would be amazing in getting music out into the world where it ought to be.  We are ready to roll. We are going to keep releasing singles and videos!

Tell us more about your incredible style.  Who are your fashion and style icons?

My fashion style icons particularly for the video are Halston as disco inspiration for the video. It was so exciting to get outside of the box for me and really let loose.  A few of my favorite, iconic designers are:  Dior, Jean-Paul Gautier, Versace and Dolce and Gabanna in particular. I paint as well and will be revealing some custom pieces for the next video. I can’t wait for you to see them!

What will you be up to this summer?

I am focusing on writing and releasing new music this summer. I’m building a new fan base around my name re-branding as ELA verses Ella Reid and I don’t want to alienate my fan tribe, so I’m working diligently to bridge the divide and bring everyone together!

If you could write with any artist, who would it be and why?

There are So many artists that I’d love to write with, but if I had to choose one, I’d say Justin Timberlake. He’s an amazing songwriter with incredible versatility and what a performer!

Please tell us about your last gig!

“With all my gigs I try to have a unique experience. Mostly for myself as much as for my fans, I like variety and keeping it a fun experience.  I also like to engage the audience and keep them involved and interested.  It makes a good time for everyone!”

When is your next show and how do we get tix?

My next big show is in Houston Sept 21st at Avant Garden for the Bayou Fem Fest!! Tickets can be purchased from a link on my site ElaShines.com

What’s ON… Drag Super Group

Drag Queen SuperGroup …A2B!

The new RetroFuture sound is HOT..Adriana Roy, Amoura Teese and BeBe Sweetbriar have teamed up to form a  Drag Queen SuperGroup …A2B! Named after the first letter in each of their names, these girls are bringing back that 90s vibe with a twist. Their debut single READ MY MIND is a rework of  If You Could Read My Mind, a double hit of the 70s and late 90s. First sung and written by Gordon Lightfoot in 1970 it skyrocketed to the Top Of The Pops, a remake was followed by Barbra Streisand in 1971 and Viola Wills  in 1980. For the film “54”, supergroup Stars on 54 with Amber, Ultra Naté and Jocelyn Enriquez came out with a dance version in 1998. Now A2B gives a hyped up RetroFuture, EDM infused version of this timeless tune, a sound created by music producers Pumpkin Spice and Bugie.. Poised to be one 0f the TOP Hits Of The Summer and beyond READ MY MIND is an anthem the will find its place on) the roster of timeless classics.

1558476507998_1561407770584

Based in San Francisco, all three members of A2B hail originally from Northern California. BeBe Sweetbriar brings a solid recording history to the group, including founding the new record label Nothing Sweeter Than Music that has released READ MY MIND. BeBe’s collaboration with Leo Frappier and Knife & Fork, UNITY, hit the #25 spot on Billboard’s Dance Chart in 2017. Under the alternate name Jericho Rose, Amoura Teese has released several recordings since 2015. Amoura is also a very talented seamstress and designer, contributing to the groups fashionable looks.  Adriana Roy is the newest A2B member to release material, but she brings over 10 years of live singing experience in many venues in California and Nevada Their individual experiences are just as varied as their individual vocal sound, but together there is a Power of Three with A2B that cannot be denied.

Here is a brief bio on the band from the back…put straight forward…

Bios?…One of the many things Mills and CJ haven’t missed during hiatus from the ‘music biz’. Usually a band would flash their pedigree and tell you about all the incredible things members of Vix20 achieved during their years in music. Regale you with stories of rock n roll decadence, tours and air miles…from Rick Wakeman on a beach in Tenerife to L A Reid in New York City, not to forget becoming Dutch Rock Heroes…but you probably wouldn’t believe them anyway.

And so it was 25 years after their first school band and after a period of time spent apart sheltering from industry BS, label politics and amoral men in suits, CJ and Mills quite accidentally started making music again…strictly for fun, right?Sure, right up until Mills arranged the commercial release of ‘Digital Age’. This has made CJ very angry but Mills thinks it will be fine. Each cut on the Vix20 debut album draws from their eclectic influences.

The sound? Debut single ‘Digital Age’ sits on the progressive pop punk shelf; while other tracks on the album range from alternative to progressive rock back to punk.2019 looks like a busy year for Vix20 or they may decide to give it a few more summers.

The Insights to their music….

Digital Age.Digital Age is a snapshot of trying to understand a world you used to own.  A time when the Walkman was king! We also got to reference all our favourite cartoons in the video.

Angel on my jet ski. Based on a true story of the biggest character Mills and Cj know….The ultimate homage

What’s ON… We’re All for… Modern Rock…

Ignacio Peña
is an artist, songwriter, singer and Emmy winner!  Currently residing in Puerto Rico, we caught up with Ignacio to learn more about his upcoming projects and summertime plans.  Read on!

Thank you for joining us Ignacio, could you take a few minutes to tell our readers more about your beginnings in the industry?
I started writing songs at 14. Songwriting became my craft and I committed myself to it from early on. I knew I wanted to be in a studio recording songs. That process of seeing a song grow from chords and a melody to a full on recording always fascinated me. After school I went to Berklee College of Music and got a Bachelors in Music Production and Engineering. But then I realized that I liked the studio if I was recording my songs. Went back to Puerto Rico made a demo of 5 songs, started shopping it around and started working making jingles. After 5 years of that I finally landed a record deal with Universal Music Latino and in 2000 released my first album “El Mundo al Reves”. The relationship with them soured pretty fast and for the second album “Anormal”, I released it as an Indie.
By that time I was also getting into video editing because I was not too happy with the first video that I made with Universal and I decided that I wanted to be more involved in the visual aspect of my songs. That opened up a whole new path for me. I began to create audiovisual shows for our live presentations. That visual aspect kept growing and in 2010 I release my third album which was the soundtrack for an audiovisual conceptual show about the history of Science and Technology entitled “The Great Planet Earth Debate: Energy”. I tried to get our local government TV channel to broadcast the movie version of that show. They didn’t…but they liked what they saw and hired me to produce two series of short videos about Puerto Rican history.

Which comes first in your writing, lyrical inspiration or the music?

I suppose each song is different. Sometimes a chorus comes to you and you build a song around that. Sometimes a title, sometimes a subject, sometimes a line you read somewhere. However it starts, by the end I make sure the song has a solid melodic structure. To me that’s the main thing. The melody is the main plot. The main story in a song.

Your videos are extremely artistic, are you a big part of that process?
Yeah. I conceptualize, direct and edit all my visual material. I have help from talented people around me but the concepts, messages and overall tone is mostly me. I kind of see it as part of the songwriting. Back in 2000 I realized that the artist of the future had to have the same precision for the visuals as for the music. Kind of like when The Beatles wanted to take over the songwriting for their albums… well the next step is taking over the visuals.

What will you be up to this summer?
We’re finishing up the visual part for “Songs for the Fall of an Empire” which should be coming out in the Fall. This is my first full album in English so I’m hoping to go places we’ve never played before with it. Its a massive project. Each song has 3 videos plus bonus materials.
Its a rock opera about the history of Debt.
Ive been working on it for about 11 years.
Hopefully we’ll get to do some dates in the States with our audiovisual show and then Europe.

What have been your most memorable shows so far?

I think its hard to beat opening for Oasis in Argentina, Roger Waters in Venezuela and Bryan Adams in Puerto Rico. Those are three of my biggest influences and having the chance to have done that was unforgettable.

29 years of breaking records and keeping the Universe Dancing!   Ronnie Matthews  aka  DJ Captain Kirk sitting in the Captains Chair of STAR FLEET MUSIC RECORD POOL!

With over 40 PLUS years in  the music biz 29 + of that has been at the helm of STAR FLEET MUSIC RECORD POOL.  300 thousand DJs from around the Globe are registered with the world’s most prestigious record pool.

Starfleet Music Gets the Music OUT they can do the same thing for recording artists as Billboard Magazine but at a more affordable rate and Ronnie Matthews not only has the respect over Record Executives worldwide but other heads of other record pools . His charts RIVAL Billboard and other ones… with more accurate and honest reporting by a network of dj’s globally.

It all began  with the job of Record Store buyer, evolving into Spinning Vinyl at the clubs under the name DJ Captain Kirk to founding STARFLEET MUSIC record pool, both names he received the blessings on from Gene Roddenberry’s son. Best put by Ronnie himself “Well, I’m an old Trekkie. I saw the original Star Trek back in the 60’s & I always wanted to be Captain Kirk. Throughout my early DJing career I had not given a thought to having a DJ name/handle, so when one of the radio stations, WCKZ Kiss-102, asked to do their mix shows, the PD asked what my DJ name was, “DING”, the light went off in my head & DJ Captain Kirk was born. I’ve had a ton of fun with that name, plus it helped spawn my company name as well, Starfleet Music Pool. I have all sorts of items given to me from companies associated with Paramount/Universal, even have a drop by Gene Roddenberry’s son, Rod Roddenberry, who is in charge of the franchise now, saying thanks to Starfleet Music PoolDJs. You’ve gotta love it.”

He is MR  DANCE MUSIC!  Ronnie has been successful at making people dance to music they have never heard before, helping to shape the dance scene for over 40 PLUS years by getting the newest and latest into the hands that spin it. Ronnie was the one that created and coined the “crossover” music genre; being the first to send the Urban sound to Dance Club DJ’s.  From the Days of Vinyl to being the first in the Pools to send the new Digital Music Format MP3 out to his DJ’s, Ronnie Matthews is the Dance Scene Music Trailblazer.  Ronnie has met and worked with some of the biggest names in the music biz from Sylvester,  Michael Jackson, P Diddy, Taylor Dane, The Village People, Kristine W , Vanilla Ice and Cece Penniston just to name a few and  he continues to do so and has a story to go along with all of them. Ronnie is well respected amongst the other record pools, Record Label A&R Reps and recording artist alike.

If you are an Recording Artist  STARFLEET MUSIC is the PLACE you need to be so your music will be in the hands of DJs worldwide.

What’s ON..Rock /Metal

If you haven’t heard of Saddle of Southern Darkness then you’ve been hiding underneath a rock and you seriously need to GET OUT more often.  The music of this Denver based band is cutting a new edge into a unique genre and creating a stir nationwide.  If you’re as curious as we are, read on.

Where did each member of SOSD grow up?

Owensboro, Kentucky for Chase and I, Denver, Colorado for Rob and Mark.

What is the musical background of SOSD and why does it all work together so well?

Our roots are in real country music and Metal. We spend a lot of time focusing on each song to make them work in our own way.

We definitely hear the metal influences!  What are your favorite metal bands?

Currently…. Bathory, Toke, and Necrot to name a few.

How would you describe the style of the SOSD stage show?

Our show is like a knife fight, beer drinking, and Hell raising debauchery.

In what ways has your newest music changed from when you first started?

Well we’ve grown as musicians and try to make every record different from the last. Bringing Rob Van Natta in on drums has brought more energy to our music I feel The Feral Few represents the live show everyone has been witnessing this past year.

What would be your dream venue in which to perform and favorite cities yet to play?

If we’re dreaming I’d say the Grand Ole Opry or Wacken Open Air.

Some of our favourite places to perform are Stevens Point-Wisconsin, Houston-Texas, and Any small towns across America that aren’t afraid to get loud and have a damn good time.

Which famous musicians have you learned from?

This list could go on about 30 pages but to name a few….

Megadeth

Bathory

George Jones

Hank 3

Where does the band like to unwind and chill together? Any favorite local hangs?

Typically in the Killbilly Saloon as we call it, a shed out behind our house. Our favorite local hangs would be TRVE Brewery and Black Sky Brewery in Denver, CO.

When does the vinyl drop?

The vinyl is currently in production and we haven’t set the release date yet. But keep your ears to the ground and follow us on social media because we will be posting the date soon.

On and ON … it’s ON With Music via Playlists

Playlists are the best way to get out the music and for people to discover new music.. forgo the “radio pluggers” it has some benefit mainly though for the big names the big labels. OK there are some exceptions to the rules like some local radios in the UK along with here and there in the USA etc etc. However unless you have a huge label behind you the chance of getting on SiriusXM or an Iheart Radio station is SLIM to NONE. So don’t waste your time or money or efforts.. don’t fall for the schemes that guarantee to get you on playlists either that’s not reality you are at the mercy of the currator like when editors are pitched.

Check out these amazing playlists that I have created featuring music from my amazing clients… along with other songs that are abso brills.. Then the playlist that accompany moods…. like AAR Products one and whatever else grabs my fancy . Along with some other playlists that catch my ear.

Enjoy!!!
